I write to think…
I write to untangle my thoughts or give birth to new ones. I write to reason, question, and struggle. If I’m not writing I’m not doing my best thinking. Each word or sentence I put down brings me closer to understanding.
I write to feel…
Writing helps me define my feelings by separating it from my thinking. Writing through my experiences surfaces the love and frustration and fear and hope—it provides a lens to reveal and focus what’s there.
I write to connect…
I write to connect my thoughts and feelings to my experience, and ultimately to connect my experience to that of others—witing is what weaves my story with the stories of those around me. Seen or unseen, writing creates bonds of all types to the people and communities around me.
