Love him or hate him, today would have been Michael Jackson’s 54th birthday. I dare you to watch this and not fall in love all over again with this great talent of our time.

Amadou and Mariam, Music from Mali [field recording]

Another great find amongst NPR’s Field Recordings that I discovered a while back but haven’t shared. Not just great music, this is also a great video of these guys at The Shrine in Harlem.

Of Monsters and Men (Field Recording)

These guys are quite popular now but if you haven’t heard them, I think you’ll enjoy this. I finally looked into them this summer and haven’t been sorry. And with these field recordings from NPR, it’s really hard not to like whatever artist is being featured. Anyway, even if you’re familiar with Of Monsters and Men, check this out, I think you’ll like it.

Sugar Tongue Slim: Cut Me Off (great hip-hop flip on Gotye’s hit)

This one’s pretty old but I never shared it here. One of my favorite MCs, Sugar Tongue Slim (STS), doing his thing over Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know.

Dry the River, A Field Recording at SXSW

Discovered this band/video via NPR and was an instant fan. Yes, the lead singer’s voice is quite stylized which may turn you off, but you can’t beat the beauty in this song and presentation. Great band, great video.

Almost Too Much Geekiness (yet still pretty amazing)

Not only stop motion with electronic music, but the subject is the assembly of a Lego, Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. Geeky as hell? Yes. Amazingly well done? Yes. Took THREE YEARS to do, so I think it deserves a little appreciation.
